The United States Air Force has rescinded the promotions of 135 security forces personnel after a mistake was found in the scoring of a test crucial for advancement. The error originated from the use of an outdated scoring key for the Security Forces Specialty Knowledge Test, leading to incorrect evaluations for these individuals who were initially promoted to technical sergeant.

Upon realizing the mistake, the Air Force conducted a comprehensive review of all 2,285 exam papers. This reevaluation identified the correct group of individuals eligible for promotion, replacing the 135 mistakenly promoted personnel with those who legitimately qualified. The total number of promotions available remains unchanged at 586, ensuring that the oversight did not affect the overall promotion count.

Air Force officials have clarified that the incident was an isolated case, attributing it to human error rather than any involvement of artificial intelligence in the grading process. They emphasized that this was a standalone occurrence and assured that measures have been implemented to strengthen internal review procedures, aiming to prevent such errors in future promotion cycles.

The personnel affected by the error have been informed about the situation and provided with resources to help them manage any resulting concerns. The Air Force is committed to addressing the implications of this mistake and supporting those impacted as they navigate the changes to their promotion status.
